Lagos govt proclaims water provide disruption to Mainland, Ikeja, Surulere, others after pipe leak

The Lagos State Authorities has introduced a short lived disruption in water provide to a number of key areas, together with Mainland, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Ketu Alapere, Mobolaji {Bank} Anthony, Oregun, Aromire, Allen Avenue, and different areas.

This disruption follows a major leak in a water pipe positioned reverse Maryland Mall, reported on January 2, 2025.

Consequently, manufacturing has been suspended at two main waterworks, Iju and Adiyan 1, which provide about 40% of the state.

The announcement was made by Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos Commissioner for Setting and Water Sources, by way of a tweet in response to a priority raised by an X consumer, @WilsonObasa.

The tweet highlighted the continued water leakage, which was confirmed by Wahab, who assured residents that the federal government was conscious of the difficulty and had taken quick motion to deal with it.

We’re certainly conscious of the leakage reverse the mall at Maryland. In mild of that, we’ve got needed to briefly halt manufacturing from our two main waterworks, Iju and Adiyan 1, which often provide about 40% of the metropolis,” Wahab wrote in his tweet.

“In mild of this, I wish to sincerely apologize to residents in Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikeja, Ketu Alapere, Mobolaji {Bank} Anthony, Oregun, Aromire, Allen Avenue, Surulere, and different areas affected by the water provide disruption.”  

Offering additional context, the tweet from Tokunbo Wahab included a video exhibiting water gushing from the damaged pipe on the highway, flooding the realm. The video illustrated the extent of the difficulty and the pressing want for repairs.

The Lagos State Water Company has been actively working to resolve the difficulty, and Wahab reassured the general public that efforts have been underway to repair the broken pipe and restore regular water provide.

The Lagos State Authorities has supplied updates on efforts over the previous few months to deal with the rising water provide wants of the state.

This initiative will help the rehabilitation of waterworks and sanitation services throughout the state, enhancing general infrastructure and contributing to improved dwelling circumstances for residents. The Lagos Water Company (LWC) is overseeing the primary section of the challenge.
