G-5 ‘Saved Nigeria From Disaster’, Says Wike At PDP Stakeholders Assembly In Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has credited the defunct G-5 governors with preserving Nigeria’s stability, asserting that their defiance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) throughout the 2023 elections averted nationwide turmoil.

Talking at a high-profile assembly with Involved PDP Stakeholders at his Abuja residence, Wike, a key G5 member, insisted that the celebration’s present woes stemmed from ignoring the group’s demand for energy rotation to the South after eight years of Northern presidency underneath Muhammadu Buhari.

“You might like us or hate us, however the reality is, if the G5 had not taken our stand, this nation could be in disaster at this time. We prioritised the structure over impunity. Had the PDP listened, we wouldn’t be on this mess,” he stated.

The assembly drew former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Senator Sam Anyanwu, and a few lawmakers throughout 36 States.

Wike lambasted PDP leaders for permitting “egocentric pursuits and greed” to undermine unity, urging a return to the founding fathers’ rules .

“It doesn’t matter who benefited. The appropriate factor was achieved for Nigeria’s stability, and we stand by it. No opposition celebration survives impunity. Why should PDP? Let the Structure information us, not ego,” he stated.

On alleged double requirements by the PDP leadershing, Wike claimed that Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, contested the governorship ticket because the State’s celebration chairman with out resigning, saying that politicians exploit loopholes, urging that it should be stoped.

 

Former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, backed Wike’s stance, admitting the PDP’s grave errors and calling for divine intervention.

 

“PDP wants God’s face to regain management. We should respect legal guidelines—each celebration and nationwide,” he stated.

The G5— former Governors Wike, Ortom, Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), had opposed Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 candidacy, citing zoning violations.

Their insurrection fractured the PDP, with Wike now serving in President Bola Tinubu’s cupboard whereas retaining PDP membership, a duality additional fueling inside strife within the celebration.
