About 15 key officers of the Folks’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, together with state and zonal executives, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday forward of the 2027 basic elections.
The defectors, who held numerous strategic positions within the PDP, had been formally obtained into the APC by Alhaji Tijani Yahaya on behalf of Abdul’aziz Yari, former governor and senator representing Zamfara West in Abuja yesterday.
Amongst those that defected had been former PDP youth chief, Sahad Dabo; former treasurer, Nasiru Anka; former organising secretary, Janaidu Magaji Kiyawa; and one other former organising secretary, Musa Halilu Faru. Others included former zonal organising secretary, Lawali Aliyu; Hajiya Rabi Bakura; and ex-officio members, Hajiya Amina Duniya and Alhaji Tijani Yahaya.
Yahaya stated Yari and the minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, would host an elaborate ceremony to welcome the defectors on their return to the nation formally.
“It’s a nice day for our celebration. Their coming into the APC will strengthen our construction and enhance our probabilities within the 2027 elections,” he stated.
Yahaya added that each new and previous members would take pleasure in equal alternatives within the celebration.
He described the defection of PDP government members to an opposition celebration within the state as omen. He urged the brand new entrants to work collectively to consolidate the APC’s rising reputation.
Yahaya later handed the defectors over to the APC state chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani, who counseled Yari and Matawalle for strengthening the celebration throughout Zamfara.
Danfulani assured the newcomers of full integration, noting that the APC “stays open and truthful to all dedicated to its progress.”
Dabo, whereas handing over his PDP membership card, stated he left as a result of the opposition celebration solely favours the wealthy, stressing that Yari’s management impressed him.
Amina Duniya, who stated she spent 25 years within the PDP, referred to as on APC leaders to make sure equity and justice, pledging to mobilise extra supporters.
Different defectors included Bashar Mohammed Dogon Kade, a former PDP aspirant for the Kaura Namoda South constituency, and Rilwanu Bello, an ex-councillorship aspirant.
APC state publicity secretary, Yusuf Gusau, confirmed that the defectors comprised of members of the PDP State Government Committee, a Home of Meeting aspirant, a former native authorities chairmanship aspirant, his marketing campaign coordinator, and a councillor.
Gusau dismissed speculations of a disaster throughout the APC, insisting that the celebration is robust, united, and rising extra common by the day.
He added: “With our latest victory within the state by-election and the calibre of individuals becoming a member of us, it’s clear that APC will reclaim Zamfara in 2027.”
