Troops of Operation Peace Defend have rescued 10 girls kidnapped by armed bandits in Sanga native authorities space of Kaduna State.
A senior navy supply on the Military Headquarters confirmed to the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that the victims had been kidnapped from their farms at Unguwan Nungu on November 29.
In accordance with the supply, Sector 5 troops launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission and intercepted the abductors round 6:40 a.m. on Friday as they tried to gather ransom from family members of the victims.
The troops reportedly engaged the abductors with superior firepower, forcing them to desert the captives and escape.
Recovered objects included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a spherical of 9mm ammunition, and ₦1.6million money believed to be a part of the ransom sum.
The rescued girls have been debriefed and reunited with their households, whereas efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals had been ongoing.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, recommended the troops for the profitable operation and urged them to maintain the offensive in opposition to terrorists, bandits, and different felony {groups} throughout the nation.
