Grammy-nominated singer, Ayra Starr, has explained that her decision to remain single during her school years was a deliberate move to protect her image.

The 23-year-old Mavin Records artiste stated that she avoided dating because she did not want anyone to claim her as an ex-girlfriend after she achieved fame.

Speaking in a recent interview with Quenlin Blackwell, the singer noted that she was always self-aware and suspicious of the motives of those who approached her at the time.

“I didn’t date in high school because I didn’t want to be anybody’s ex. I knew a lot of guys were trying, and I was like, why are you trying That means you must have an ulterior motive,” she said.

The singer also spoke about her current standards for a partner, emphasising that she values intelligence over physical looks.
