Rivers Ready For Successful Hosting Of FEDUGAM 2026

The Rivers State government says all necessary arrangements have been completed for the successful hosting of the sixth edition of the Federal Education Sector Games (FEDUGAM), tagged Rivers 2026, in Port Harcourt.

The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Sirawoo, disclosed this while conducting members of the Main Organising Committee around facilities prepared for the competition.

Sirawoo, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, assured participants and visitors that the state government had put adequate measures in place to guarantee a smooth and memorable event.

He also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for approving the timely release of funds for the competition.

According to him, the games will officially commence on Tuesday, May 19, with an opening ceremony scheduled to hold at the Sharks Stadium.

The week-long sporting festival will bring together athletes and officials from agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education.

Sirawoo disclosed that events would be held at various venues, including the Port Harcourt Club, the University of Port Harcourt, the Civic Centre, Sharks Stadium and the Basketball Court on Niger Street in Port Harcourt.

He urged residents of Rivers State to support the athletes by turning out in large numbers throughout the competition, which runs from May 16 to May 23.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Nkiru Nneji, praised the Rivers State Government for providing the facilities and logistics required for a successful tournament.

Nneji particularly applauded Governor Fubara for what she described as his “immense support” for the games, noting that his intervention helped rescue the competition from possible collapse.

She added that the Federal Ministry of Education remained committed to strengthening its collaboration with the Rivers State Government in promoting quality education and sports development across the country.
