Ex-PDP Assembly Candidate Defects To NDC, Declares Reps Bid

A former House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Eti-Osa Constituency II, Hassan Zamani, has defected to the National Democratic Congress and declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency ahead of the next general elections.

Zamani, who contested the 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly election on the PDP platform, formally announced his defection at a political gathering attended by party supporters, community stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders, and political associates on Monday in Abuja.

The former PDP chieftain said his decision to leave the party was informed by what he described as the need to provide “purposeful representation” and build a broader political movement capable of addressing the developmental needs of the constituency.

Describing the move as “a bold and necessary step towards rescuing the future of Eti-Osa Constituency II,” Zamani said the NDC offered a platform for inclusive leadership and grassroots-driven governance.

“This movement is beyond politics; it is about the people. The people of Eti-Osa deserve leadership that listens, empowers, and delivers real development. Our decision to join the NDC is driven by the vision to build a stronger, more inclusive, and people-oriented political movement,” he said.

His defection involved several supporters, coordinators, ward mobilisers, and grassroots political structures aligned with him.

Zamani also used the occasion to formally declare his ambition to represent Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the NDC platform.

While appreciating the leadership and members of the PDP for the relationships and opportunities he enjoyed during his time in the party, he maintained that the political future of the constituency required a wider coalition focused on development and effective representation.

Supporters at the event described his defection as a significant political development, citing his influence among youths, women, and grassroots communities in Eti-Osa.
