Former Bauchi Gov Abubakar Wins APC Governorship Primary For 2027

Former governor of Bauchi, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, John Bassey Abang, announced the results on Saturday morning, stating that the governorship primary was conducted on May 22.

According to him, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who contested the exercise.

He said Nura Manu Soro secured 13,638 votes, while former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, scored 26,001 votes.

Other contestants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who polled 13,648 votes, and Kabir Baba Maaji, who secured 8,157 votes.

Also in the race were Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who scored 7,181 votes.

Declaring the result, Abang said Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, having secured the highest number of valid votes cast with a total of 57,517 votes, was duly returned as winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

The committee chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primary election, noting that the exercise was conducted on May 21.

Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State between 2015 and 2019 on the APC platform.

He lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His victory in the primary now positions him as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election as he seeks a return to office for a second time.
