Primaries: Abia APC Urges Peace, Set Up Reconciliation Committee

All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter, has set up a peace and reconciliation committee to settle disputes arising from its primaries for the 2027 general election.

The chairman, Chijioke Chukwu disclosed this to journalists after the governorship primaries in Umuahia, the state capital, urging the aggrieved members to embrace peace.

He said the move has become necessary to ensure that the chapter approaches the election with common purpose and to sweep the polls right from the presidential to the state assembly.

”Everybody cannot win at the same time and the same day. You can win today and lose tomorrow. You can lose tomorrow and win the next tomorrow.

”No position can be occupied by two persons at a time. It can only be one. Even before the exercise began, we were proactive to see where some of these challenges may come from.

”There is no way you will have a party of this magnitude of followership and you will not see people who are aggrieved for one reason or the other.

”It’s not possible. Even in a small nuclear family, there are differences of opinion, differences of thoughts, and differences of expectations,” he said.

Chukwu explained that being mindful of the feelings of the aggrieved members, the chapter would work out means of cushioning the effects of the exercise on them.

The chairman appealed to aggrieved members to leave but remain loyal to the party, adding that “We are making sure we see how we can reduce the financial burden of their loss.”
