COPDEM Congratulates Obi On NDC Ticket, Calls It Democratic Milestone

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has congratulated Mr. Peter Obi on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, describing the development as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Prince Rwang Pam Jnr, the coalition said Obi’s emergence reflected his longstanding commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and people-oriented leadership.

According to COPDEM, Nigerians across the country have witnessed Obi’s dedication to national development, youth empowerment, and the fight against corruption—qualities it said position him as a credible contender for the nation’s highest office.

“Your selection as the flagbearer is a testament to your unwavering commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and people-centered leadership,” the statement read.

The coalition expressed confidence that Obi’s leadership would enable the NDC to present a credible and transformative alternative to Nigerians in the 2027 presidential election.

COPDEM also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting democratic values, promoting electoral integrity, and ensuring that the will of the people prevails throughout the electoral process.

“We stand ready to work with you and all genuine democrats to build a stronger, more prosperous, and united Nigeria,” it added.

The group said Obi’s emergence had rekindled hope among Nigerians seeking political renewal and a more inclusive governance structure.

It further expressed optimism that the candidacy would encourage broader civic participation and strengthen democratic engagement ahead of the polls.

COPDEM also congratulated Obi’s running mate, though the group did not specify the name, wishing both candidates success in the 2027 electoral contest.

The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to advancing democratic principles and supporting credible leaders dedicated to Nigeria’s progress, unity, and development.
