The Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties in Bauchi State, Farouk Mustapha has dismissed reports claiming he is being considered as the vice-presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
In a statement issued on Friday, Mustapha said there had been no discussion between him and the party regarding such a role.
He also denied giving consent to any arrangement that would see him emerge as the running mate to Governor Seyi Makinde, the party’s presidential candidate.
His words: “My attention has been drawn to speculations making the rounds on social media alleging that the presidential candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM), is considering me as his running mate in the forthcoming election.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state categorically that no such arrangement has been discussed with me, nor have I given my consent to any such proposition. As a humble servant of Allah, I remain content with wherever Allah (SWT) places me, knowing fully that His decree is always the best.
“At no point have I had any discussion with anyone, whether within the APM, or with its presidential candidate, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, CON, regarding the position of running mate. Therefore, any claim suggesting that I have agreed to such an arrangement is entirely false and without foundation.”
The politician said he considered it necessary to clarify his position because of enquiries from supporters and journalists.
“As the Hausa saying goes, ‘Kowa ya san matar auren sa’; everyone knows his own bride. It has therefore become necessary for me to clarify my position for the benefit of my supporters, journalists who have reached out to me, and those who may be attempting to contact me based on these unfounded reports.
“I respectfully call on my supporters, well-wishers, friends, and the good people of Bauchi State to disregard these speculations and treat them as mere rumours.
“At the moment, I am in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, devoted to prayers and seeking Allah’s guidance regarding His chosen path for me. I trust entirely in His wisdom and timing. Thank you all for your concern, support, and prayers,” he stated.
