Chiwetalu Agu Mourns Alexx Ekubo, Says Nollywood Lost A Gifted Storyteller

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has paid an emotional tribute to late actor Alexx Ekubo, describing his death as a heartbreaking loss to the Nigerian film industry.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, Agu expressed deep sorrow over Ekubo’s passing, praising the late actor for his passion, dedication and immense talent.

“Rest in peace, Alexx Ekubo. I am deeply saddened by your passing. As a fellow actor and someone who has walked this path for many years, I know how much passion, sacrifice, and heart you poured into your craft,” Agu said.

The veteran actor noted that Ekubo’s untimely death had deprived Nollywood of a promising talent whose career still had much to offer.

“You were young, talented, and full of promise, and it hurts to see a life like yours go out so soon. The stage and screen have lost not just an actor, but a storyteller who still had so many roles left to bring to life,” he stated.

Agu also extended his condolences to Ekubo’s family, friends and loved ones, praying that they find strength and comfort during the difficult period.

LEADERSHIP reports that the late actor’s family had earlier announced that he died at the age of 40 following complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Ahead of his burial, family members, friends and colleagues gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, to receive his body as it arrived in his hometown.

The funeral convoy made a brief stop at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before proceeding to the family’s compound, where mourners paid their respects.

Residents of the community joined several Nollywood stars in a solemn procession through the village, wearing T-shirts bearing Ekubo’s image and carrying his photographs in honour of his memory.

Among the celebrities present to bid the late actor farewell were his close friend IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli and fashion entrepreneur Yomi Casual, who all travelled to Arochukwu to pay their last respects.
