Hilda Baci Speaks Out Against Online Bullying Targeting Her Teenage Brother

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as ‘Hilda Baci’, has condemned online bullying targeted at her 15-year-old brother after a Snapchat video featuring both of them spread across social media.

In a post on X, Baci said she never imagined the light-hearted clip would be reposted widely and used to mock her brother. She noted that some users edited his photos and shared hurtful comments about his appearance.

The celebrity chef criticised adults who ridiculed a teenager online. She stressed that her brother had done nothing wrong apart from appearing in a playful video with her.

Baci described him as a kind and deeply loved young boy. She said cruel remarks and altered images would not define him. She also reminded users that a real teenager was reading the comments and urged people to be more considerate online.

She wrote:

“I never imagined that a lighthearted video with my 15-year-old brother would be taken from my Snapchat, reposted across different platforms, and turned into an excuse to bully a child.

“Some of you have left cruel comments. Others have gone as far as editing his photos to make him look bigger just to get a few laughs.

“Adults are editing the image of a 15-year-old boy and publicly mocking him.

“My brother did nothing except exist in a funny video with his sister.

“If your idea of entertainment is tearing down a child, then that’s a reflection of your character, not his.

“He’s kind. He’s loved. He’s growing, learning, and becoming the amazing young man I know he will be. No hateful comment or edited photo will ever change that.

“I hope, before you type another insult or share another edited image, you remember that there is a real teenager on the other side of your screen reading what you write. Do better.”
