Civil Defence Tasks Private Security Practitioners On Security

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, Chukwuemeka Odimba, has urged private guard companies to step up their activities to assist in tackling insecurity in the state.

Odimba stated this when the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, led by its chairman, Ndubuisi Iheanacho, visited him in his office in Umuahia, the capital.

He underlined the need for the companies to redouble their efforts in surveillance, intelligence gathering, and information sharing with conventional security agencies.

According to the commandant, by so doing, the companies would not only be collaborating with the security agencies but also justifying the confidence reposed in them.

Odimba explained that, as the sole body charged with the responsibility of registering such companies, it would not condone violations of the operational code of the corps.

His words: “With the cooperation of genuine operators, the industry will be sanitised and repositioned to achieve the purpose of its establishment by the Federal Government.”

He informed them that the command had organised capacity-building programmes for private guard companies in the state and urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained productively.
