British singer Lauren Bennett, best known as one of the voices behind LMFAO’s global hit ‘Party Rock Anthem’, has died at the age of 37.
The news of her passing was announced on Monday by her former girl group, G.R.L., in an emotional tribute shared on Instagram.
“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren,” the group wrote. “Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us.”
The group did not reveal the cause of Bennett’s death, while her representatives had yet to offer an official statement at the time of this report.
Released in 2011, ‘Party Rock Anthem’ became one of the biggest songs of the decade, spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Bennett also appeared alongside LMFAO in the song’s music video, which has amassed more than 2.5 billion views on YouTube.
In 2014, Bennett joined G.R.L., a girl group created as a reboot of The Pussycat Dolls, alongside Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton, Simone Battle and Emmalyn Estrada. The group found success with songs including ‘Ugly Heart’ and ‘Wild Wild Love’, a collaboration with Pitbull.
G.R.L. disbanded in 2015 following the death of member Simone Battle. Beyond her work with the group, Bennett also contributed vocals to the soundtracks of the films ‘Date Night and 21 Jump Street’.
Paying further tribute, G.R.L. said: “We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Bennett was also a member of Paradiso Girls, a pop group created by choreographer Robin Antin as a European spin-off of The Pussycat Dolls.
Among those mourning her was former bandmate Aria Crescendo, who shared an emotional message on Instagram.
“RIP Lauren, my sister, my best friend. I can’t believe you left us,” Crescendo wrote. “We spoke a week before it all happened, and I could not imagine that would be the last time I would be able to talk to you.”
