ADC Names Okumgba Deputy Governorship Candidate For 2027 Rivers Election

After weeks of speculation, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has named Mr. David Amapakaye Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The party said Okumgba, a seasoned administrator, businessman and experienced politician, was chosen based on his leadership qualities, extensive political experience and commitment to public service.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the ADC State Chairman, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, said Okumgba’s emergence would strengthen the party’s governorship ticket alongside its candidate, Hon. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson (GBP).

According to Dimkpa, Okumgba has held several strategic political positions, including South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of a major political party. He also served as Chairman of the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State and previously contested for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He said the party was confident that Okumgba’s political experience, organisational capacity, interpersonal skills and deep understanding of Rivers State’s political landscape would complement Pidomson’s leadership.

“The Pidomson-Okumgba ticket represents competence, experience, inclusiveness and a shared vision for a new Rivers State founded on good governance, accountability, economic growth, security and equal opportunities for all,” Dimkpa said.

He added that the ADC believed the ticket reflected the aspirations of Rivers people and possessed the leadership, competence and integrity needed to move the state forward.

Dimkpa called on party members, supporters and residents of the state to rally behind the ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“We urge all members of our great party, our supporters and the good people of Rivers State to receive Mr. David Amapakaye Okumgba with enthusiasm and join us in building a broad-based movement committed to delivering a government that truly serves the people,” he said.

The ADC chairman expressed confidence that the party would inspire public trust, unite the people and provide the leadership needed to build a more prosperous Rivers State.
