Donation To Zonkwa Rural Hospital Sparks Renewed Call For Facility Upgrade

The chief medical director (CMD)of the Kaduna State Rural Hospital, Zonkwa, Dr Ezekiel Kwasu, has appealed to the state government to upgrade the facility to a General Hospital to enable it meet the growing healthcare needs of residents in Zangon Kataf local government area and the neighbouring communities.

Kwasu made the appeal yesterday in Zonkwa when he received medical equipment and essential drugs donated to the hospital by Comrade Danjuma Bello Sarki.

He explained that the appeal had become necessary because the hospital now serves a rapidly increasing population and receives referrals from several surrounding communities despite operating with limited facilities and resources.

According to him, upgrading the hospital to a General Hospital would improve access to quality healthcare services, attract more medical personnel and enable the facility to handle more specialised medical cases.

The CMD expressed appreciation to Comrade Bello Sarki for facilitating the donation, describing the gesture as timely and a demonstration of commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the constituency.

Earlier, Comrade Danjuma Bello Sarki said he was motivated to seek support from the donor agency after identifying the challenges facing the hospital and the need to complement government efforts in the health sector.

He noted that access to quality healthcare remains a fundamental right and pledged to continue mobilising support and partnerships aimed at improving health and educational infrastructure across Zonkwa Constituency.

Comrade Bello Sarki recalled that he had earlier collaborated with a federal government agency to establish a state-of-the-art science laboratory at Government Technical College, Abet, as part of his commitment to educational development.

The House of Assembly hopeful for Zonkwa Constituency in the 2027 general elections assured residents that, if elected, he would prioritise legislation and advocacy that would enhance healthcare services, education, youth empowerment and rural development.

Also speaking, the Agwam Bajju, Mr. Luka Kogi Yabwat, represented by the Waziri Bajju, commended Comrade Bello Sarki for the intervention, describing it as a practical demonstration of responsive leadership. He urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of the people.

In a remark on behalf of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Zangon Kataf Branch, the Secretary, Comrade Onismus Zakaria, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying the equipment and drugs would strengthen service delivery and improve patient care at the hospital.

He appealed to governments at all levels and other stakeholders to continue investing in health facilities, noting that quality healthcare is critical to community development.

In separate goodwill messages, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Zangon Kataf local government area, Mr. Martins Koya, and the Local Government Women Leader commended Comrade Bello Sarki for his consistent support for community development.

They described the intervention as a reflection of selfless leadership and urged political office holders and aspiring leaders to focus on initiatives that directly impact the lives of the people.
