I Will Demand Accountability From You, Kefas Tells Appointees

Taraba State governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has warned his appointees and other officials against handling public affairs as their personal entitlement.

He said his administration would hold them accountable for their performances.

Governor Kefas gave the warning during the swearing-in of political and statutory office holders at the Banquet Hall of TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, the state capital.

The governor said their appointments were to strengthen key institutions of government and to improve service delivery, stressing that only officials who deliver results would retain public confidence.

He described public office as a sacred trust that demands integrity, discipline, transparency and selfless service to the people.

He insisted that his administration would not tolerate complacency or abuse of responsibility.

Kefas further stated that the appointees were assuming office at a critical stage of his administration’s drive to build stronger institutions, deepen accountability and accelerate socio-economic development across the state.

The governor charged the TSIEC leadership with safeguarding the credibility and independence of the electoral process and urged the commission to fulfil its responsibilities in a manner that inspires public confidence.

He also directed members of the Local Government Service Commission to reposition the local government system for greater efficiency and responsiveness.

The governor tasked the Anti-Corruption Commission to enforce transparency and accountability across government institutions.

Governor Kefas further urged his special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants to provide innovative policy support and to ensure that government programmes translate into measurable benefits for the people.

He called on all the appointees to rise above ethnic, religious and political considerations in the discharge of their duties, emphasising that leadership is defined by responsibility, integrity and results.

While assuring them of his administration’s support, the governor made it clear that every appointee would be assessed on performance and commitment to the administration’s development agenda.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, the chairman of TSIEC, Dr Job Bala Aji, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them.

He pledged that they would uphold their oath of office and discharge their responsibilities with fairness, transparency and dedication in the overall interest of Taraba State.

The inaugurated officials are the chairman and members of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, members of the Taraba State Anti-Corruption Commission, the solicitor-general and permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice, as well as special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants.
