Lupita Nyong’o Wins Praise For The Odyssey Performance Following Casting Debate

Lupita Nyong’o has earned widespread praise for her portrayal of Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, with early reviews applauding her performance after months of debate over her casting.

The Oscar-winning actress appeared in New York on Thursday as she continued promoting the highly anticipated film, days after its review embargo was lifted.

Critics have described Nyong’o’s performance as “vivid,” praising the depth and intensity she brings to one of Greek mythology’s most iconic figures.

Her casting initially sparked online debate, with some questioning Nolan’s decision to cast the Kenyan-Mexican actress as Helen of Troy. Addressing the controversy, Nyong’o said she remained fully supportive of the director’s creative vision.

“I’m very supportive of Chris’s intention with it and with the version of this story that he is telling. Our cast is representative of the world,” she told Elle, adding that she had no interest in defending the casting.

Early reviews have since shifted the conversation, with The Independent awarding the film five stars, while RogerEbert.com and the Financial Times also praised Nyong’o’s performance.

‘The Odyssey’ currently holds a 96 per cent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes from more than 60 reviews, making it one of Nolan’s highest-rated films to date.
