Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Saturday inaugurated 23 commissioners, alongside newly appointed Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries, charging them to hit the ground running as his administration enters its final year in office.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the International Conference Centre in Gombe, marked the formal inauguration of the new members of the State Executive Council following their confirmation by the Gombe State House of Assembly.
Addressing the appointees, Yahaya urged them to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, diligence and accountability, stressing that the remaining months of his administration would require commitment and hard work.
He noted that there would be little time for adjustment, urging the commissioners to begin implementing the government’s policies and programmes immediately.
The governor also said his administration would remain focused on governance rather than political distractions, adding that its achievements over the past seven years would serve as its campaign message ahead of future elections.
According to him, the government would continue to showcase its developmental projects and programmes instead of engaging in exchanges with opposition parties.
Yahaya commended the Gombe State House of Assembly for the swift screening and confirmation of the commissioner nominees, describing the cordial relationship between the executive and legislature as one of the factors behind the administration’s successes.
He also praised the state’s Permanent Secretaries for ensuring continuity in governance following the dissolution of the State Executive Council in April 2026, noting that government activities and public service delivery continued uninterrupted during the transition.
The governor explained that the newly appointed commissioners were selected based on competence while ensuring fair representation across the state’s Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
He charged the Special Advisers to provide strategic policy direction and innovative ideas that would strengthen government programmes, while urging the Permanent Secretaries to maintain professionalism, fiscal discipline and administrative efficiency.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Yahaya said his government had implemented infrastructure, social and economic development projects across the state’s 240 wards over the past seven years, expressing confidence that the record of performance would speak for itself.
He further warned the new appointees against corruption, abuse of office and indiscipline, reminding them that public office is a trust that must be exercised in the best interest of the people.
The governor also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the new officials in advancing the state’s development agenda.
The newly inaugurated commissioners were assigned to different ministries. Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri was appointed Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, while Micah Sunday Hamman was assigned to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. Prof. Aishatu Umaru Maigari became Commissioner for Education, and Sanusi Ahmad Pindiga was named Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.
Yusuf K. Jalingo was appointed Commissioner for Environment and Forest Resources, while Muhammad Gambo Magaji took charge of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Prof. Danladi Adamu Bojude was assigned the Health Ministry, and Mohammed Saidu Mohammed was named Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development.
Aishatu Mohammed Bose Ahmed was appointed Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Moses Kyari Bolda took charge of the Ministry of Information, Strategy and Culture. Adamu Dishi Kupto was assigned to the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and Zubairu Muhammad Umar became Commissioner for Justice.
Ibrahim Shehu Turaki was appointed Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, while Salihu Baba Alkali was assigned to the Ministry of Livestock Development. Sani Ahmad Haruna took charge of Local Government and Community Development, and L.D. Faruk was named Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Dr. Habu Dahiru was appointed Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, while Shehu Yerima Abdullahi was assigned to the Ministry of Special Duties and Regional Integration. Nasir Mohammed Aliyu became Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism, and Engr. Bala Adams was appointed Commissioner for Water Resources.
Dr. Bertha Danja was assigned to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu became Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, while Yusuf Abdu Kwadon was appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development.
