A worker was rescued alive after a wall collapsed on him during a demolition exercise at Kofar Mata Zango in Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Sunday.
The Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 8:49 a.m.
In a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency said its emergency response team from the headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.
According to the statement, firefighters discovered that a residential building measuring about 30 by 20 feet was undergoing demolition when the fencing wall suddenly became unstable.
The victim, identified as Sadiq Ahmad, was reportedly attempting to escape when he fell and became trapped beneath the collapsing wall.
The fire service said its rescue team swiftly commenced operations and successfully pulled him out alive before transporting him to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital.
He was later handed over to his brother, Naziru Ahmad, for medical treatment.
The agency said the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
It also urged members of the public to observe proper safety measures during demolition and construction activities to prevent similar accidents.
