‎“You Have No Business Relocating Abroad If You’re In Your 50s” – Singer Speed Darlington

‎Nigerian British rapper Speed Darlington has addressed those in their 50s who want to relocate abroad.

‎In a video captured online, he told them they have no business relocating abroad. He questioned their purpose in going there, wondering if they wanted to hustle at such an age.

‎Speed said that by the time they start seeing the rewards of their hustle, it would be too late. He stressed that relocating abroad is mostly for young people in their 20s.

‎“Nigerians in their 50s have no business saying they’re relocating abroad. What are you going there to do? By the time you start seeing the rewards of your hustle, it is too late. Relocating abroad is mostly for young people in their 20s.

‎A year ago, singer Dotman had lamented over relocating from Nigeria to the US. He said he regretted his decision, as he had been struggling in silence.

‎Veteran actor and filmmaker Ugezu Ugezu also shared the heartbreaking story of a Nigerian medical doctor who became a meat butcher in the US. According to him, the practising medical doctor sold his clinic and relocated to the US. Unfortunately for him, he became a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed.

‎Award-winning comedian and actor Ayo Makun shared his opinion about the Japa syndrome. He opined that the syndrome of relocating overseas, tagged as Japa, will continue to occur in the country because of corrupt politicians who embezzle money when elected into political positions and have nothing to show for it at the end of their tenure.

‎In early 2024, the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, had given reasons why he would not encourage the emigration of Nigerians. He said ‘japa’ could only get someone a 9-to-5 job and advised young people in the country to push their way through to get into a place of decision-making, especially regarding the economy of Nigeria.
