Father, Daughter Die In Kano After Falling Into Dry Well

A 45-year-old man, Abubakar Abdullahi, and his 15-year-old daughter, Firdausi, have died after falling into an abandoned dry well in Yan-chibi village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif confirmed the incident in an audio message made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

According to him, the tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening when the teenage girl accidentally slipped into the well.

“The father entered the well in an attempt to rescue his daughter but also became trapped, resulting in the death of both victims,” he said.

Yusif explained that, personnel from its Tsanyawa branch responded to a distress call shortly after the incident but were unable to complete the rescue operation due to poor visibility and the hazardous conditions at the scene.

He added that a specialised rescue team from the Fire Service headquarters in Kano was deployed early Wednesday to assist in the operation, maintaining that, the victims were eventually retrieved from the well unconscious and were confirmed dead.

“Their remains were handed over to the village head of yan-chibi, Shamsu Sani, for burial.”

While condoling the bereaved family, the Service urged residents to avoid entering wells without appropriate safety and rescue equipment, warning that such attempts could prove fatal.
