Minister, IGP Agree on Taskforce to Fight Power Infrastructure Vandalism

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has asked the Nigeria Police Force to intensify protection of the country’s power infrastructure, he told the Inspector‑General of Police, Tunji Disu, during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Tegbe, who was accompanied by the Ministry’s permanent secretary and other management officials, said the vandalisation of power assets remained a “major threat” to the sector. He said the visit was aimed at “seeking enhanced cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding the nation’s power infrastructure.”

He praised the Force’s performance under IGP Disu and urged “intensified surveillance of critical installations” and “sustained collaboration between the Ministry and the Police” to protect power facilities.

IGP Disu said the police were committed to protecting critical national infrastructure, including power assets, and to prosecuting vandals and other perpetrators of power‑sector crimes.

Disu said he was willing to work with the Ministry to establish “a Task Force on the protection of power infrastructure” and assured the minister of the Force’s “full cooperation and protection,” noting the “critical and attack‑prone nature of power sector assets and personnel.”

The meeting, the Ministry said, supports efforts to secure reliable electricity supply through stronger inter‑agency collaboration, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
