Task Force On Illegal Mining Arrests 20 Suspected Miners In Taraba

The Taraba State Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force has arrested 20 suspected illegal miners as part of renewed efforts to clamp down on unauthorized mining activities across the state.

The chairman of the Task Force, SP Emmanuel Jamu, who disclosed this to newsmen in Jalingo, said the suspects were apprehended based on credible intelligence while on their way to an illegal mining site within the state.

SP Jamu sai, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were from Zamfara State and had allegedly travelled to Taraba to engage in illegal mining operations.

“Under my watch, our operatives successfully intercepted and arrested 20 suspected illegal miners. They were apprehended following credible intelligence while proceeding to an illegal mining site in Taraba State,” he said.

He stated that the suspects are currently in custody and would be handed over to the Taraba State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

According to him, items recovered from the suspects are being documented as part of the ongoing investigation.

The task force chairman, who reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackle illegal mining activities in the state, stresses that anyone found engaging in such unlawful acts would face the full weight of the law.

He also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid efforts at protecting the state’s mineral resources and curbing illegal mining.
