2027 : Rufai Oseni Faults Peter Obi, Demands Clear Plan For Nigeria

Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, demanding that he provide Nigerians with clear and workable plans for addressing the country’s challenges.

Oseni made the remarks on Monday while reviewing Obi’s recent television interview, where he questioned the former Anambra State governor’s approach to addressing some of the country’s major problems.

The broadcaster said Nigerians could not afford to elect leaders based on broad promises without knowing how such promises would be implemented.

According to him, candidates seeking to govern Nigeria must explain the methodology behind their proposed solutions rather than merely identifying the problems confronting the country.

“I didn’t see how. We can’t run a country on vibes,” Oseni said.

He particularly challenged Obi and other presidential aspirants to provide concrete strategies for tackling insecurity, stressing that candidates could discuss their broad policy direction without disclosing sensitive operational details that could compromise security.

Oseni said: “We will fix insecurity. How? And please, people should stop telling us, ‘I don’t want to share my operational details.’”

He argued that candidates were not expected to disclose operational details, but should be able to explain the broader framework and methodology they intended to adopt once elected.

“Nobody says you should share your operational details, because as a candidate, you can’t have operational details. What we are saying is overarching details, methodology, how you are going to do it,” he added.

Oseni also expressed concern over the absence of a comprehensive manifesto or policy blueprint, stressing that Nigerians should be able to scrutinise the ideas of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election.

He said the debate should move beyond personalities and political popularity to the workability of the policies being proposed by those seeking to lead the country.

According to him, Nigeria is facing serious challenges and cannot afford to experiment with vague promises.

He therefore urged Obi to present clear ideas on how his proposed government would address insecurity and other major national problems.

Oseni’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures, including Obi, positioning themselves for the presidential contest.

The broadcaster had also previously warned the NDC and Obi that he would subject their policies and programmes to rigorous scrutiny, insisting that political momentum alone was not enough to convince Nigerians.

He said the party must demonstrate what it intends to do for Nigerians and provide a rigorous plan capable of addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.
