Corps Member Re-enrols 11 Out-Of-School Children In Zamfara

A National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) member serving in Zamfara state, Shamsiya Lukman, has enrolled 11 out-of-school children into Samaru Primary School in Gusau local government area as part of her Community Development Service (CDS) project.

Lukman also provided the pupils with school uniforms, socks, sandals, school bags and writing materials to support their education.

Speaking during the registration of the children yesterday, Lukman said the initiative was aimed at complementing federal and state governments efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.

The Corps member said she was inspired to carry out the project after training the children in leatherwork and other vocational skills to equip them for self-reliance.

Lukman urged the pupils to take their studies seriously, stressing that primary education forms the foundation of their academic journey.

A representative of the school, Kafayat Abdulazeez, commended Lukman for the gesture and advised the children to be hardworking, obedient and regular in school.

Abdulazeez also encouraged the pupils to ask questions in class and seek guidance from teachers when necessary.

In his remarks, the guardian of the children and Islamic teacher, Mallam Babangida Samaru, thanked the corps member for her support.

Samaru said the children, who are also receiving Islamic education at his Almajiri school, would be monitored to ensure they take their studies seriously.

He also expressed appreciation to Lukman for training the children in skills acquisition and prayed for God’s blessings upon her and success for the pupils.
