Police Recover 160 Suspected Stolen Solar Inverters In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has recovered 160 suspected stolen solar inverters valued at N59.2 million and arrested a suspect in connection with the case.

The recovery was made by detectives attached to the Sharada Police Division after acting on credible information from a community policing stakeholder on July 29.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the information indicated that a suspect, Abdullahi Isah, 43, was advertising large quantities of solar inverters at suspiciously low prices.

The suspect was immediately arrested, while a follow-up search led to the recovery of 160 units of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters valued at N59.2 million.

Police said the items were recovered from an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters along the Western Bypass Road in Kano and are “reasonably suspected to have been stolen.”

The Command called on members of the public who own or may have lost solar inverters of similar description to report to the Sharada Police Division for possible identification and recovery.

Kiyawa said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the recovered items and identify other persons who may be connected to the case.

In a separate operation, the Command arrested three suspects linked to an armed robbery attack on Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village along Maiduguri Road in Gaya Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on July 25 when armed robbers reportedly overpowered security guards, tied them up and stole six fuel dispensing machines valued at about N10.2 million.

Following a report to the police, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) launched an investigation and arrested Bishir Abubakar, 60, Shamsu Abdullahi, 30, and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan, 56, all from Katsina State.

According to the police, the suspects confessed to purchasing the stolen fuel dispensing machines from one Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State, who remains at large, for N5.2 million.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers involved in both operations for their professionalism and swift response.
