Abia Donates Air Force Complex To Federal Government

The Federal Government has received a newly completed Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Administrative Complex facilitated by the Abia State Government in Umuahia, the state capital.

At the event, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, described the establishment of the complex as a historic milestone that would strengthen security across the South-East.

Aneke, who noted that the gesture transcends politics and goes beyond bricks and mortar, said it reflects the visionary leadership and unwavering commitment of Governor Alex Otti to security.

He said, “It is a defining contribution to national defence and stability, and a trailblazing legacy that will bear your name in the annals of Nigeria’s security architecture.

“Indeed, these facilities will serve as a robust foundation for NAF operations in Abia, enabling us to discharge our constitutional mandates with greater efficiency and effectiveness.”

In his address, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), charged NAF personnel who would serve in the complex to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

While congratulating the state government and the people on the initiative, Musa urged the NAF to use its presence in the state to ensure that it becomes a better place.

“We don’t want to hear of issues arising because of your presence. Already, good things are happening; make it better,” the minister and former Chief of Defence Staff added.

He commended Governor Alex Otti for his visionary leadership and strategic investment in national security, describing the project as a practical demonstration of how state governments can meaningfully strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.

He lauded the officers, airmen and airwomen of the NAF for their dedication to defending Nigeria’s airspace and supporting joint operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and crude oil theft.

Governor Otti, in a speech titled “Security Is a Right”, attributed his commitment to the project to his administration’s desire to keep the people of Abia safe.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for making it possible for the state to have an Air Force presence on its soil.
