No Fire at Lagos Airport Terminal 2, Smoke Caused by Fire Suppression System — FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s Terminal 2, explaining that the smoke seen inside the facility was caused by the discharge of its FM-200 fire suppression system.

In an updated statement issued on Sunday, the authority said preliminary investigations ruled out a fire outbreak, adding that officials are now focused on determining why the suppression system was activated.

According to FAAN, the incident prompted an immediate emergency response, with its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) deployed to the terminal as a precaution while established safety procedures were implemented.

The authority also confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries or casualties.

FAAN said activities at the terminal have since returned to normal, with passengers being processed and flights operating according to schedule.

“Normal operations have since resumed at the terminal, while detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident,” the statement read.

The authority expressed appreciation to passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the brief disruption, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security across the nation’s airports.
