Popular Nigerian Juju and highlife singer Iyun Janet Ajilore, widely known as St Janet, has died following a brief illness.
The singer reportedly passed away on Saturday, according to a statement released by her associates, who described her death as a great loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of St. Janet (Iyun Janet Ajilore), who departed this world after a brief illness.
“Her music, talent, and unique voice touched many lives and left an unforgettable mark in Nigerian entertainment. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Forever remembered. Forever cherished,” the statement read.
The news has since triggered an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans, and admirers, many of whom took to social media to pay tribute to the late singer.
Among those who mourned her was fellow musician Alayo Melody, who reflected on the uncertainty of life while praying for her peaceful rest.
“We live today and tomorrow we die! 😭😭 St Janet, may God grant you eternal rest 🙏,” the singer wrote.
Publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies also confirmed the sad news in a post on Sunday, revealing that the singer died following a brief illness.
St Janet was widely recognised for her energetic stage performances, socially unfiltered party songs, and significant contributions to Nigeria’s Juju and highlife music scene, earning a loyal fan base throughout her career.
