Commission, Taraba To Rebuild Disaster-affected Communities

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated building materials worth millions of naira to assist families in Taraba State, which were worst hit by the disaster, to rebuild their homes.
The commission stepped up humanitarian support for the disaster-hit communities to restore the livelihoods of affected persons.

The intervention, delivered through the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA), is expected to complement the state government’s ongoing humanitarian response and recovery efforts for victims of floods, windstorms, fire outbreaks and other disasters across the state.

The NEDC Taraba State coordinator, Malam Adamu Lawan, who handed the materials to the executive secretary of TSEMA, Dr Echuseh Audu, said the materials would be distributed to affected communities to support the reconstruction of damaged houses, improve living conditions, accelerate recovery, and resettle vulnerable households.

The agency’s director of Administration, Mr Sani Maisukwati, who received the items on behalf of Dr Audu, described the intervention as timely and significant to the people.
According to him, the gesture would surely strengthen ongoing efforts to provide relief and help disaster victims rebuild their lives.

He further noted that the donation underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between government institutions and development partners in addressing the humanitarian needs of communities affected by disasters.

He maintained that the support would provide critical assistance to families whose homes and livelihoods had been disrupted, while complementing the state government’s efforts to reduce hardship for vulnerable residents.

Mr Sani Maisukwati, the agency’s Director of Administration, commended the NEDC for extending humanitarian support to disaster victims in the state.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Agbu Kefas for prioritising the welfare, protection and recovery of vulnerable citizens.

She said the Kefas administration had continued to demonstrate commitment to providing relief and recovery support to communities affected by disasters, stressing that the NEDC intervention would further boost the state’s humanitarian response.

“We appreciate the North East Development Commission for this timely intervention and for complementing the efforts of the Taraba State Government in providing humanitarian assistance to victims of disasters.

“The donated building materials will be distributed to affected beneficiaries in a transparent and accountable manner to support the reconstruction of damaged homes and facilitate the recovery and resettlement of disaster victims.”

She assured the commission that TSEMA would ensure that the materials reached the intended beneficiaries, with priority given to the most vulnerable households and communities affected by disasters.

The agency ES said it would work closely with the NEDC and other relevant partners to strengthen emergency response, improve the coordination of humanitarian interventions, and expand recovery support across the state.

She noted that disasters often leave affected families without adequate shelter and disrupt their sources of income, making the provision of building materials a critical component of efforts to restore stability and help communities return to normal life.

The TSEMA boss added that transparent and equitable distribution of relief materials remained central to the agency’s mandate and would guide the implementation of the intervention.

She said the agency would maintain proper monitoring and accountability mechanisms to ensure that the materials were deployed for their intended purpose and that the intervention delivered meaningful support to affected households.

TSEMA, however, reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with the NEDC, government agencies and development organisations to improve disaster preparedness, strengthen humanitarian response and support the long-term recovery of communities across Taraba State.

The intervention is expected to provide renewed hope for disaster victims, support the rebuilding of damaged homes and reinforce ongoing efforts to restore livelihoods and resettle affected families.
