Gov Yusuf Launches Sickle Cell Centre In Kano

Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a Sickle Cell Centre aimed at providing comprehensive care and treatment for people living with sickle cell disease, while also distributing 300 customised digital blood pressure monitors to public servants and political appointees.

The governor unveiled the initiatives during an event at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where he also flagged off the distribution of free maternal and Accident and Emergency commodities as well as new hospital bed sheets.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the newly established Sickle Cell Centre will provide free diagnosis, counselling, treatment, follow-up care, patient education, health promotion and specialised management of sickle cell disease under one facility.

Speaking at the event, Yusuf said the centre was designed to improve access to quality healthcare services for sickle cell patients and ease the burden faced by affected families.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to provide adequate medicines and other essential support to improve the health and wellbeing of patients across the state.

The governor said the distribution of the 300 digital blood pressure monitors was prompted by growing concerns over sudden deaths associated with hypertension.

According to him, the initiative is intended to encourage regular health monitoring among public officials and promote a healthier workforce.

Yusuf also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the free maternal and Accident and Emergency commodities programme, noting that the intervention had already saved thousands of lives across Kano State.
