Davido Urges Peace Ahead Of Osun Governorship Election

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to political actors and residents of Osun State to remain peaceful before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election.

Davido made the appeal in a video shared on his X handle, @davido, urging eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibility without fear and allow democracy to take its course.

Speaking in the video, the singer said he was addressing the public not only as a celebrity but also as “one of your own,” adding that he understood the tension and emotions often associated with elections.

He called on political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders to reject violence, intimidation, provocation and the destruction of lives and property.

“Let the people come out freely and peacefully to vote for the candidate of their choice. If they choose you, let the victory be through their votes. If they choose someone else, let that decision be respected,” he said.

Davido emphasised that every vote counts, urging residents not to be intimidated but to participate peacefully in the electoral process.

“Your vote is your voice, and your choice must be respected,” he said.

The singer also appealed for calm regardless of the outcome of the election, warning against actions capable of endangering lives or undermining the democratic process.

According to him, no political ambition is worth violence, destruction or the loss of a single life.

Davido further noted that while politics is temporary, the people and future of Osun State remain paramount, urging residents to demonstrate peace, courage and commitment to the state’s development.

He concluded by urging all eligible voters in Osun State to come out peacefully, reject intimidation and allow democracy to prevail.
