Linda Ikeji Brings Apo Six Killings To The Big Screen In “The Night Of June 7th”

Media entrepreneur and filmmaker Linda Ikeji is bringing one of Nigeria’s most tragic real-life incidents to the big screen with her forthcoming movie, The Night of June 7th, set for release in cinemas on August 28.
Inspired by the infamous Apo Six killings, the film revisits the events of June 7, 2005, when six young Nigerians were allegedly chased, killed and secretly buried in a shallow grave by police officers in the Apo area of Abuja.
The incident shocked the nation and became one of the country’s most controversial cases of alleged extrajudicial killings, sparking widespread outrage and demands for justice.
Ahead of the film’s release, Linda Ikeji unveiled a striking promotional campaign comparing photographs of the police officers accused in the case with the actors portraying them in the movie.
Sharing the images on social media, she wrote: “The accused VS the actors who played them in The Night of June 7th.”

She added: “On the night of June 7th, 2005, some police officers chased down and murdered six young individuals in the Apo community of Abuja and afterwards buried them in a shallow grave. Why? You won’t believe it.”
Describing the project as an adaptation of true events, Ikeji said the film explores the “shockingly brutal events that brought a city to its knees.”
The announcement has generated significant interest online, with many Nigerians commending the decision to revisit the tragic story through film. In contrast, others expressed hope that the production would honour the memories of the victims and introduce a new generation to one of the country’s most talked-about criminal justice cases.
The Night of June 7th is scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on August 28.
