Police Arrest Yobe Man With 19 Suspected Stolen Cattle

The police command in Yobe State has intercepted a 28-year-old suspect found with 19 cattle believed to have been stolen in Bursari local government area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Damaturu.

He said the suspect, identified as Umar Sanda of Lafiya Fulani Settlement, via Azare in Katagum local government area of Bauchi State, was arrested on July 31 following credible intelligence.
According to the police, operatives of the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters acted on the intelligence and intercepted the suspect with the cattle on the outskirts of Dumburi Village in Masaba Ward, Bursari LGA.

“The suspect claimed during preliminary interrogation that the cattle belonged to his brother, who resides at the same address.

“However, he could not properly account for the ownership and lawful possession of the animals or provide satisfactory details to substantiate his claim,” the statement said.

The police said the suspect had been taken into custody while the 19 cattle were secured pending the outcome of investigations to establish the rightful ownership of the livestock and determine whether any offence had been committed.

The commissioner of police in the state, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other crimes across the state.

He urged livestock owners and members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information that would help prevent and detect criminal activities.
