Troops Recover 147 Rustled Cows, Sheep, Camels, 3 Motorcycles In Sokoto

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recovered 147 rustled livestock and 3 motorcycles during a counter-terrorism operation in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The recovery was made on Tuesday following a distress call that suspected terrorists were moving rustled animals through communities in the area, the Joint Task Force said.

Acting on the intelligence, troops laid an ambush at a known crossing point in Horo Birni village and intercepted the fleeing suspects.

According to the statement the suspects abandoned the livestock and escaped into the bush on sighting the troops, taking advantage of the difficult terrain.

A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of 101 cows, 44 sheep, 2 camels and 3 motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists for mobility.

The Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said in a statement on Wednesday that the recovered livestock had been identified and handed over to their rightful owners.

He said the development had brought relief to the affected communities.

Lt. Col. Danja added that the operation underscored the sustained efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combat terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities across the North West, while protecting lives and property and restoring confidence among residents.

Security authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks operating within the region.
