The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has honoured Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with its Award of Excellence for Peace, Security and Good Governance.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the award was presented during the Women in Security Summit and Awards 2026 in Abuja.
The statement said Governor Yusuf, who was represented by Waiya, received the award in recognition of what NAWOJ described as his administration’s developmental strides and commitment to peace, security and good governance.
It added that the Director-General of the National Blood Service Agency, Professor Saleh Yuguda, who presented the award on behalf of NAWOJ, said the association found the governor worthy of the honour after assessing the achievements of his administration.
According to the statement, NAWOJ also commended the governor’s commitment to women’s inclusion in governance, noting that women occupy strategic positions across key government agencies in Kano State.
The statement further quoted the association as saying that the appointments have strengthened women’s participation in governance and contributed to the state’s development agenda.
The summit, themed:”Strategic Role of Women in Strengthening National Security Through Leadership, Innovation and Collaborative Partnership,” featured the presentation of awards to individuals recognised for contributions to public service and national development.
