Adamawa Allocates Land For New Army Division

Adamawa State government has pledged to allocate between 100 and 300 hectares of land for the establishment of military formations and training facilities. for the newly approved 10 Division of the Nigerian Army, which will oversee military operations in Adamawa and Taraba States.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri made the commitment yesterday when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, led by Maj-Gen. Ime Basi, on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yola.

The governor described the creation of the 10 Division as a major step toward enhancing security, improving rapid response to emerging threats and promoting lasting peace, particularly in border communities and other strategic locations across the state.

He assured the delegation that all the necessary documentation, including the issuance of a certificate of occupancy (C of O) would be completed within two weeks to facilitate the smooth take-off of the project.
The governor urged the military to sustain its efforts in tackling insecurity across Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe and other parts of the country.

Earlier, Maj-Gen. Basi, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, said the delegation was in Adamawa to identify suitable locations for the immediate deployment of troops and the establishment of new military formations.

He explained that the new division is intended to strengthen operational response to security threats, increase troop presence in strategic areas and enhance the protection of life and property in Adamawa and Taraba States.

According to him, the assessment team would inspect potential sites in Yola, Ganye, Gombi, Mubi and Madagali to determine suitable locations for military formations capable of improving security coverage, especially in vulnerable border communities.

Major General Basi appealed to the state government to provide temporary land for the immediate deployment of troops while permanent barracks and operational facilities are being developed.

He also requested the allocation of larger parcels of land for permanent military barracks, training grounds and operational facilities, noting that such installations should be located away from densely populated areas to allow for effective military training and exercises.

The delegation further sought the support of the Adamawa State Government in assigning officials from the State Survey Department to work with Nigerian Army survey teams in mapping, demarcating and processing legal documentation, including Rights of Occupancy and Certificates of Occupancy, for the proposed sites.
