TSUBEB Denies Unlawfully Retaining Directors Beyond Retirement Age

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has denied allegations that five of its directors and other senior officials are unlawfully remaining in office beyond the statutory retirement age.

In a statement signed by the Board’s management, TSUBEB described the allegations circulating on social media as false, reckless and defamatory, accusing those behind them of attempting to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the institution.

The Board said all matters relating to appointments, retirements, promotions and other personnel issues are handled in accordance with the Taraba State Public Service Rules and other relevant regulations.

According to TSUBEB, the Public Service Rules permit extensions of service where they are considered necessary in the public interest, provided such extensions follow due process and receive approval from the appropriate government authorities.

The Board specifically rejected claims that its Executive Chairperson, Christiana Taninga Binga, unlawfully retained any officer, stating that officials currently serving under approved extensions had obtained the necessary government authorisation.

TSUBEB urged members of the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as misinformation capable of undermining confidence in the institution and its leadership.

It also warned individuals and groups responsible for originating or circulating what it described as false and defamatory claims to desist, adding that it reserved the right to take legal action against those found responsible.

The Board appealed to media organisations and the public to verify information through official government channels before publishing or sharing claims concerning TSUBEB and its officials.

It reaffirmed its commitment to improving basic education across Taraba State.
