Kano Distributes Furniture, Others To Newlywed 1,500 Couples

The Kano State government has distributed household furniture and other essential items to 1,500 couples married under its mass wedding programme, Auren Gata.

The distribution was carried out on Saturday by Governor Abba Yusuf during a reception organised for the newlyweds at the open arena of the Kano State Government House.

Yusuf said the items, which included beds, mattresses, household furniture and other necessities, were provided to enable the couples to begin their married lives with some measure of comfort.

He disclosed that the state government had committed more than N1.5bn to the mass wedding programme, covering medical screening, dowry payments, business grants, furniture, food and other essential commodities for the couples.

According to him, each couple received N100,000 as dowry in addition to another N100,000 capital grant to serve as seed capital for business and promote self-reliance.

The governor said the beneficiaries were subjected to medical examinations before the wedding, while they also underwent marriage counselling and participated in workshops and seminars organised by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

Yusuf said the programme was one of the promises made by his administration during the 2023 electioneering campaign across the 44 local government areas of the state.
“Alhamdulillah, to the glory of Allah, today we have continued to fulfil that promise,” he said.
He urged the newlyweds to build their marriages on patience, mutual respect, justice, fairness and peaceful coexistence, stressing that marriage was an act of worship.

The governor also called on the couples to conduct their matrimonial lives in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and prayed for them to be blessed with children who would contribute positively to society.

The mass wedding attracted governors and representatives from some North-West states, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, members of the National Assembly, government officials, business leaders and other dignitaries.
