The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,800 corps members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II deployed to Benue State for their one year national service.
In her speech during the swearing-in ceremony which took place on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wannune in Tarka local government area, the NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba disclosed that the orientation exercise registered prospective corps members comprising 906 males and 894 females.
Garba while welcoming corps members to Benue state, said the National Youth Service Corps has four cardinal programmes, the orientation course is the first which formally ushers them into the service year.
She explained that the course was designed to adequately equip corps members with the knowledge they need to navigate through the service year and beyond, “It is highly regimented, comprising physical trainings, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting activities, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training”
“I am highly honoured and delighted to welcome you all to the occasion of the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the orientation exercise for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members deployed to Benue State and the dislodged corps members from the FCT Abuja for the one-year mandatory National Service.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the lives of these young graduates as they formally take the oath of allegiance and commit themselves to the service of our great nation. This ceremony is not just a tradition but a solemn reminder of the responsibilities, discipline and patriotism expected of every corps member.
“As you take the oath of allegiance today, remember that you are ambassadors of your families, institutions and nation at large. Let your conduct reflect excellence and patriotism at all times.
“The orientation exercise registered a total of 1,800 prospective Corps Members comprising 906 males and 894 females.
“You will be challenged through healthy competitions where you are expected to display the spirit of sportsmanship. You will also be co-opted into administrative operations of the orientation course to further enhance the desired leadership and citizenship skills required of you”
“All these activities and programmes have been carefully designed to engage you towards self-reliance and build your capacity for leadership responsibilities. Let me at this juncture reassure you that the people of Benue State are very hospitable and accommodating,” she said.
