Alia To Corps Members: Your Security Is Guaranteed In Benue

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has said the security of corps members posted to the state is guaranteed throughout their one-year stay.

Alia said Nigeria was currently bedevilled by security challenges, which Benue state had not been left out of.

In his address during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course held at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Wannune, Tarka local government area, Alia urged corps members to tread in the laudable footsteps of the founding fathers of the scheme by contributing their quota to national development.

According to the governor, “We are aware that you can only achieve the aforementioned tasks comprehensively in an atmosphere of peace. As a result, security challenges currently bedevil our nation, and Benue State has not been left out. However, let me quickly allay your fears and assure you that as a Government, we are poised to ensure that your security is guaranteed throughout your stay in the state”

“For the avoidance of doubt, our administration, in conjunction with all security agencies, has put in place giant proactive measures to ensure the safety of all places and residential areas of Corps members in the state”, Alia said.

Alia added, “As you may already know, NYSC was established in 1973 to provide graduates like you the opportunity to tell a richer tale of who we are as a nation; by acquiring a better understanding of the Nigerian people and their cultures to discard all vestiges of ethnicity completely, and all forms of nepotism in our national life. I therefore urge you to integrate freely amongst yourselves and cultivate friendships that will last you a lifetime”

“In line with the realities of the 21st century, and of our economic situation as a country, the scheme prioritises a programme that you will be introduced to, the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED). I urge you all to take the SAED programme seriously as it is a door to great fortune,” the governor said.
