Tinubu Treks To Office, Eats Once Daily -NRS Chairman Adedeji

The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has dismissed concerns over the alleged lavish lifestyles of political office holders, saying President Bola Tinubu does not live extravagantly despite occupying the nation’s highest office.

Adedeji said Tinubu often walks from his residence to his office and only uses a vehicle when travelling to the airport.

He also claimed that the President eats only once a day and had not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months.

The NRS chairman made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday while responding to questions about the lifestyle of political leaders amid the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians.

His comments came against the backdrop of growing public concerns over government spending and the perceived extravagant lifestyles of some public officials, at a time when citizens are grappling with rising living costs and other economic pressures.

Defending the President, Adedeji said there was little basis for describing Tinubu’s lifestyle as lavish, arguing that the President spends most of his time working.

“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy. Before he became president, what is he riding?” he said.

Reacting to questions about the number of luxury Escalade vehicles reportedly attached to the President’s convoy, Adedeji challenged the premise of the question, saying the President could afford such vehicles if he chose to use them.

“How much is an Escalade that the president of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country,” he said.

Adedeji further argued that Tinubu’s activities did not suggest that he was living a lavish lifestyle, noting that the President had spent much of his time working and had not travelled out of the country in the past three months.

“What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working. If you go there now, you will see him review one document or the other,” he said.

He also claimed that Tinubu eats only once daily and rarely attends social events.

“So what is living large? The president eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?” Adedeji asked.
