I Meant ‘Kill Accord’ With Votes, Not Violence — Fadahunsi

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has clarified his controversial “Kill Accord” comment, saying he was referring to defeating the Accord Party at the ballot box and not promoting violence.

Fadahunsi’s clarification followed the circulation of a video on social media in which he was seen speaking in Yoruba and accusing members of the Accord Party of attacking All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters.

In the video, the senator appeared to urge APC supporters in Ilesa to attack members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

He was also heard challenging those present to record his remarks and share them on social media.

However, in a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday in Abuja and titled::“Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC,” the senator said his comment was political and metaphorical.

The statement said Fadahunsi was urging APC supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party through lawful, peaceful and democratic means at the polls.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.

It added that the comment did not portray Fadahunsi as an advocate of violence against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political organisation.

According to the statement, the senator’s position had consistently been that electoral contests should be determined by the votes of the people rather than force.

Fadahunsi urged APC supporters, political actors and voters to maintain peace and law and order before, during and after the election.

He also called on security agencies to remain professional and ensure that eligible voters could exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation.

“At no point did Senator Fadahunsi advocate violence, intimidation or any form of physical attack against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political party. His consistent position has always been that elections should be decided by the votes of the people and not by force,” the statement said.

The senator further reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values, issue-based campaigns and a credible electoral process.

“He believes that the will of the people, freely expressed through the ballot, must always prevail,” the statement added.

The media office appealed to members of the public not to misinterpret or deliberately distort the senator’s remarks, insisting that they were intended to encourage electoral victory through the ballot rather than violence.

Meanwhile, the campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate Fadahunsi’s remarks and take appropriate action.
