UNIMAID Seeks Stronger Partnership With Borno Correspondents’ Chapel

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has called for closer collaboration with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to promote accurate and balanced reporting of the institution’s activities.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the university’s media team to the Correspondents’ Chapel in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Leading the delegation, the university’s public relations officer, Amina Abdullahi, said the visit was aimed at reinforcing the existing relationship between the institution and journalists, while also expressing sympathy to members of the chapel over the demise of the father of the Chapel’s Chairman, and the loss of a member recently.

She offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and encouraged the bereaved families to remain steadfast.

Abdullahi also commended the journalists for their continued support to the university, recalling her previous experience as a correspondent in Adamawa State before her recent appointment as UNIMAID’s spokesperson.

She stressed the importance of sustained collaboration, noting that the university, as one of Nigeria’s leading higher institutions, undertakes numerous academic , research and community-based activities that deserve professional, factual and objective media coverage.

According to her, stronger synergy between the university and the media would ensure timely dissemination of credible information concerning the institution’s programmes, achievements and activities involving students, staff and the wider university community.

She assured members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the university’s readiness to maintain an open and cordial working relationship that would foster mutual understanding and effective information sharing.

Responding on behalf of the chairman of the Borno State Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Inusa Salihu Ndahi, the assistant secretary of the chapel, Alhaji Atiku Galadima, welcomed the delegation and appreciated the visit.

Galadima assured the university of the chapel’s commitment to providing professional, balanced and comprehensive coverage of its activities.

He said the chapel was eager to sustain regular engagement with the university and pledged to strengthen the relationship to address any communication gaps that might arise.

Also speaking, the director of information of the University of Maiduguri, Comrade Abubakar Sadiq Biye, acknowledged the vital role played by journalists during the height of the Boko Haram insurgency.

He recalled that members of the Correspondents’ Chapel continued to report the university’s activities objectively despite the security challenges, helping to sustain public confidence in the institution and reassuring students, staff and their families while academic activities continued.

Biye expressed appreciation to Borno journalists for their professionalism and support over the years and expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would further enhance public awareness of the university’s achievements and ongoing development initiatives.
