Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has donated N10 million towards the establishment of a Skills Laboratory Centre at Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Ayingba, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Obi disclosed this in a Facebook post on Sunday following his visit to the institution on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The former Anambra State governor said the donation was part of his continued support for the nursing institution and its efforts to provide quality training for healthcare professionals.
According to him, the institution had previously faced a threat to its accreditation due to the absence of a bus to transport students for clinical placements.
“Yesterday Saturday 15th August morning, I visited Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Ayingba in Dekina LGA of Kogi State,” Obi said.
“A few years ago, the institution faced a threat to its accreditation due to the lack of a bus for student clinical placements.
“It gives me great satisfaction to note that, thanks to my intervention and the subsequent provision of a school bus, the school has successfully retained its accreditation and continues to play a vital role in educating nurses and other healthcare professionals.”
Obi said his latest intervention was aimed at supporting the establishment of a skills laboratory at the college, adding that he remained committed to supporting the management, staff and students.
He urged the students to remain focused on their studies, describing nursing as a profession with wide-ranging opportunities both in Nigeria and internationally.
The NDC presidential candidate stressed the importance of professional training in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Obi also called for greater investment in education and healthcare, describing both sectors as critical to sustainable development and an improved quality of life.
“Every nation striving for sustainable development and an improved quality of life for its citizens must deliberately invest in two crucial sectors: education and healthcare,” he said.
He urged governments at all levels to prioritise education and healthcare, while encouraging individuals and organisations to complement government efforts through targeted interventions.
