Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid Will Be Easiest, Opposition Crippled – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be the easiest contest for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the opposition as “crippled and depleted.”

Wike stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking at a press briefing, where he defended the Tinubu administration’s handling of democratic processes and dismissed claims that the government was interfering with elections.

According to him, the government should be commended for allowing political and electoral processes to operate without undue interference.

“When they lose, they claim the government manipulated the process; when they win, they show off their might. It does not work that way.

“From what I have seen, this government allows processes to run their own way, and they must be given credit for that,” he said.

Wike contrasted the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 election with the 2023 general election, which he described as a difficult and uncertain contest for the incumbent.

“2023 was a tough election for him. Nobody knew what the government at the time was trying to do, and even governors were afraid.

“But 2027 will be different. To remove a government, you need a strong, vibrant opposition that has spent over four years planning, not one that is constantly looking for a party to join,” the minister said.

He also criticised opposition parties and politicians, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of being divided and lacking the political structure required to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike pointed to the role played by the G5 governors in the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the support of influential political figures was critical to the performance of opposition candidates.

He, however, cautioned against using the outcome of governorship elections as a direct measure of performance in a presidential election.

“Governorship elections rely on local variables, but a national election is a completely different ballgame.

“If it is this 2027 election against Bola Ahmed Tinubu, forget it. It’s over,” he declared.

The FCT minister also addressed concerns over the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, urging citizens to assess leaders based on the concrete measures being taken to address problems rather than on emotions.

He said leadership should be judged by the actions taken to identify and resolve challenges confronting the people.

“Leadership is defined by the steps you take to solve problems.

“When someone identifies a problem and takes concrete action to fix it, that is the effort people should appreciate,” Wike said.

The minister maintained that the administration’s actions in tackling national challenges should form the basis of public assessment ahead of the 2027 general election.
