The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has organised a training workshop for its directors and support officers from south-west and north-central in order to strengthen basic education foundation in the country.
The week-long workshop under the HOPE EDU Programme held at Golfview Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos was in collaboration with the World Bank.
The workshop has as its theme: “Strengthening Foundations: Implementing the Structured Pedagogy Package,”
The executive secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, in her opening remarks, said the interactive workshop was designed to fine-tune implementation of Result Area 1 of HOPE EDU programme in the UBE programme.
The UBEC boss who described education as the cornerstone of national development expressed the federal government’s committment to ensuring that the HOPE EDU Programme delivers on its mandate.
According to her, this gathering was not just another training session; it was a defining moment in our collective mission to strengthen the foundations of basic education in Nigeria.
“Over the next few days, we will focus on equipping our State Ministries of Education and SUBEBs with the tools, strategies, and accountability mechanisms required to transform classrooms across the nation.
“The knowledge gained here is not for individuals alone; it is the key to unlocking the potential of millions.
“At the end of the workshops, we hope that you will be better informed and equipped in your effort to deliver the HOPE EDU Programme to the beneficiaries.
“This is coupled with adequate planning and implementing activities that will impact meaningfully on the quality of learning in schools in our country in addition to, fast-track the processes,” she said.
Garba urged the participants to work diligently in ensuring that the workshop deliberations lead to actionable roadmaps and measurable progress that would transform basic education in the country.
In her welcome address, Dr. Aisha Abdul,
Programme Manager, HOPE-EDU Programme, described education as the bridge between potential and prosperity, saying that the gathering was designed to strengthen such bridge.
Dr Abdul maintained that the programme in collaboration with World Bank team had since the beginning of the year worked assiduously with consultants, experts and states to prepare the ground for reforms that the workshop would help translate into action.
She urged participants to engage fully, be inquisitive as the workshop progresses so as to come out with actionable plans.
According to her, the Structured Pedagogy Package is not just about inputs it is about outcomes: ensuring every child has access to quality teaching, effective materials, and rigorous evaluation.
” Over the coming days, our teams will guide you through implementation.
This Programme thrives because of our collective commitment. Together, we can ensure that the foundations we lay here in Lagos will echo in classrooms across Nigeria for generations to come,” she said.
