The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the recent Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has appealed to the people of the state to remain calm and peaceful following the poll.
Oyebamiji made the appeal after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking with State House correspondents, he said the most important thing was for elections to be conducted and managed in a peaceful atmosphere, stressing that governance was about the people.
He appealed to the people of Osun State to remain peaceful, saying the APC was still examining the results of the election.
“For now, the APC is still examining the books, and by the time we spread our sheets, we’ll be able to get back to the public on what our own opinions are and what decisions we want to take, but the take home is that they should be calm,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate also called on the governor to speak to his supporters and discourage violence against members of the opposition.
“I want to advise the governor that it’s important for him to talk to his people. Violence against our people is not too good, and he needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page,” he said.
Oyebamiji also alleged that some APC members had been attacked in the state after the election.
Responding to a question on concerns he had raised in his first election statement about attacks on APC members, he said some people were attacked in his village, Ikere, as recently as Friday morning.
“Well, yes. Even as at this morning (yesterday), in my own village, Ikere, some were attacked; about four, five people were attacked. We have informed the security operatives accordingly,” he said.
Oyebamiji, however, reiterated his call for calm among the people of Osun State.
